One of my favourite species of eucalyptus is this beautiful yet scraggly large flowering gem of the Western Australian Wheatbelt region. The flowers of this species of Mallee range from cream through yellow to pink to rich red. And the small branches also vary in colour with frequent occurrence of powdery white covering the rich red-brown bark. I have set the flowers forward and the bird to the back on purpose: the main feature of the picture is the cluster of flowers. But once framed the bird actually found a bit of “zing” about it- just like when they call, out in the bush.
